Eveleen: A Photo Clutch Card

Ever thought of making a card with a zip without a sewing machine? Will like to share with you what I did recently.
Eveleen, a beautiful pharmacist/ keyboardist was planning to go back home to Malaysia. This time it was different. It was not for a holiday, but instead, she felt it was time to return. She works hard and always makes time for others. Thus, I wanted to make something special for her, different from what I have made in the past.

But was the idea of using paper and a zip for this card possible? I printed some photos and was thinking about how I could make a little pouch/ folder to store the photos inside in the little time that I had. Not quite entirely sure if it would work out nicely, I ended up making 2 attempts to get it to one I was happy with. I ditched the first one, but the second was a success: it opens and closes nicely. It is a little tricky to attach the zip to it but once you get it measured right, it does not take much time to finish the rest. Unfortunately, I did not take photos of how I made it; but hopefully, my explanation and finished shots will give you a rough idea.

Fold an a4 cardstock in half and paste the photo on the front cover. Then, cut the two corners to give them a rounded edge. This will enable the zip to open/close smoothly.

Place the zip upwards and double-side both sides of the zip. The tricky bit comes next.

Leave about an inch and from there paste it along the edge of the front cardstock.

Repeat the same thing with the cardstock on the back. At the other end of the zip, trim the edges neatly and sew it/ tape them together.
It works very well and feels almost like a clutch!

You can slot in anything that you want. I had everyone write their messages inside and popped in a few photos. She then has to open it to find out what’s inside. I personally like the use of the zip because it adds a nice touch to it and it is really not something you would expect in a card.

Other simple ideas you may find useful for cards are buttons and office clips. They are great ways of adding a nice accent to your cards – very affordable yet interesting! 🙂
