An easy recipe that you can tweak the sweetness and taste to your personal liking! This can be adapted to a baking tin or casserole too.
Apple Filling
4 Granny Smith green apples
200g brown / castor sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
2 cinnamon sticks (optional)
nutmeg powder (optional)
Crumble Topping
175g salted butter
50g brown / castor sugar
200g all-purpose flour
- Cut apples into slices. If you are using cupcake liners, cut them into cubes instead.
- In a pot, place apples inside. Add sugar and cinnamon while cooking. Add 100g of sugar and slowly add to your desired sweetness level. For a stronger cinnamon taste, add cinnamon sticks and nutmeg powder. Amount of cinnamon and nutmeg can be adjusted to your personal liking.
- Cook apples till soft.
- Make crumble topping. Make sure butter is thawed, but not too soft.
- Mix flour and sugar into a bowl. Cut butter into cubes and add into bowl. Use hands to incorporate them till crumble texture is formed. Add more flour, if needed.
- Preheat oven at 180°C
- You can fill your baking tin, casserole or cupcake liners with the apple filling. If you prefer to have a layer of crumble at the bottom, bake it at 180°C until golden brown before putting the filling in.
- Top it off with the crumble and finish baking it at 180°C until golden brown. Serve it with some vanilla ice-cream or eat it by its own!
